Nearly a quarter of a century since Townshend and Daltrey's last album, Endless Wire carries not a little weight of expectation on its shoulders.
Recorded sporadically over four years and comprising nine standalone songs and Townshend's 'mini-opera' Wire And Glass, narratives of love and religion feature heavily.
Townshend has said this is "not the old Who," but "something else".
Either way, the new Who are some way behind even the best current guitar bands, let alone having much bearing on The Who's early output.
Aside from the odd flourish, Daltrey's singing has weakened and at times sounds strained, while musically they plough an uninspirational, hackneyed furrow.
