BELFAST's Peter Wilson wisely decided to dream up a new moniker before knocking out his own music, but he set the bar high choosing Duke Special.
Thankfully, the shamelessly romantic and beautifully melodic music here is a solid start, decorated with jaunty instrumental flourishes of clarinet and other tart sounds to give a vaudevillian flavour.
Brimming with ideas and strangely chipper melancholy, such as on recent single Last Night I Nearly Died - followed by the line 'But I woke up just in time' - the Duke takes a position on the musical radar somewhere between Rufus Wainwright and Ed Harcourt, but a little more 'pop'.
Definitely worth checking out. 4/5
