STARTING in 1966, this is the sweeping and thoroughly compelling story of Hannah Buchan, who, determined not to follow the lifestyle of her radical parents, instead chooses to settle down with her doctor boyfriend and raise a family.
But her dream of domestic stability is shattered after a moment of madness and nearly four decades later it comes back to haunt her.
This could so easily have been a 'bored-housewife with a nasty secret' story, but Kennedy makes Hannah's secret intriguingly complex and uses a political backdrop to elevate the book to something far superior.
