THIS is the first release for Moscow-born New Yorker Spektor on Warner, but she already has a loyal underground following from three previous albums, which marked her out as an off-beat, whimsical but highly talented soloist in the Tori Amos vein.
While the lo-fi, anti-folk finish of previous albums have been ironed out, the glossier production and odd electro-beat backing, such as On The Radio, have not masked Spektor's quirky, simplistic approach to melody and song structure.
Her knack for a tune that gets under the skin, coupled with her simple but sumptuous piano playing and arresting voice, makes for a great package.
Lend her your ears, and be entertained. 4/5
