Singer-guitarist Adam Turla's delightfully throaty vocals frame an almost Transylvanian musical backdrop - replete with rustling chains on One More Notch - as violin, drums and guitar slosh round the inside of a whisky barrel.
Sin, redemption and guilt colour their Americana-rooted tales from the underbelly of life, which are given a good throttling.
A talent for painting vividly grim, dirty vignettes makes MBD a thrilling listen that'll stay on your stereo for weeks. 4/5
