TWO of the area's finest go head to head tomorrow (Friday) when Look See Proof and Fruition take to the stage for charity.

Both indie rock bands have grown in stature during the past year.

Headliners Look See Proof are playing this home date on their first national tour which also features NME Breaking Bands gigs at famous venues and an interview on BBC 6 music radio with Steve Lamaq.

Lamaq has championed the band since making their first single Tell Me, Tell Me, Tell Me on Tigertrap Records his record of the week.

The year started well when Fly magazine named the band as ones to watch in 2007.

And second single, Discussions, released last week, showcased their writing skills and gained them more radio play.

Fruition's year started with the release of their latest single Black Mariah on Talk of the Town records.

Selected in Fuse online magazine's annual top 10, the single charted briefly, confirming increased interest after the 50-plus gigs they played in 2006. Highlights included support slots for The Rifles, Larrakin Love and current indie darlings The View.

One punter's opinion was apparently, "The View were good but who were that band Fruition?!", and fans hope that big label interest will follow.

A few steps behind, but no less promising, are third on the bill, Stonefield, a band with a big rock sound that defies their ages.

Their recent four track EP was given rave reviews by Fuse magazine who are following this band's progress with real anticipation.

And Blonde Louis, a new band from Letchworth GC, open what promises to be an intense line-up.

If you want to judge for yourself who Hitchin's indie band of 2006 is and just how good newcomers Stonefield are then get down to Hitchin Town Hall tomorrow.

The gig, organised by students from Hitchin Boys School in aid of A World Challenge trip to do community work in Peru this coming summer, is for all ages.

There is a no alcohol and a no smoking policy and doors open from 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £5, are available on the door or from www.wegottickets.com
