Hastily christened 'nu-rave' by drooling critics, Klaxons' sound is hardly Altern-8 for the Noughties.
But what Jamie Reynolds, Simon Taylor and James Righton have produced is a mindblowing meld of punk rock, frenetic glo-stick dance, spiky electro and art-school quirkiness. Every crevice is bursting with ideas.
Second single Atlantis To Interzone sees the lads chopping between turbo-charged old-rave and turbo-charged guitar, while Golden Skans throbs with harmonic cooing over insistent piano-and-drum.
There isn't space here to do justice to Klaxons' cherry-picking approach, but the key to their success is how they mould them into a cohesive, insistent whole.
Beguiling, original and compulsive listening. 4/5
