The time has come for Sheffield's biggest band to tackle the 'difficult' second album.
But, in true Monkeys style, they have wasted no time worrying about what everyone will think and turned out a collection of butt-kicking indie-rock numbers while coming across as if they simply had nothing better to do. Alex Turner's razor-sharp observations on the murky side of modern urbanity haven't waned, while the music whips up adrenalin with speedy, portentous drum rolls (on first single Brianstorm) to funky guitar (Old Yellow Bricks) and touching balladry (Only Ones Who Know). They aren't capable of putting a foot - or note - wrong. 5/5
