FOLLOWING the excellent A History of Violence, director and actor team David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen have joined up once more for Eastern Promises.
Viggo plays ruthless Nikolai, a member of an organised crime family who crosses paths with a midwife (Naomi Watts) who unwittingly uncovers evidence which could be used to bring the gang down.
Given any normal director this film would have been a cliché-filled deadbeat crime film. Cronenberg is better than that, and so is Eastern Promises.****
