Ben Kennedy, who has been attracting attention from Premier League clubs, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The highly-rated forward, who is the Northern Ireland U19 captain, suffered a knee injury in training and will require an operation.

It is a big blow for Boro who have suffered injuries to other key players such as Chris Whelpdale and Dean Wells in recent weeks.

Chairman Phil Wallace told the club website: “This is yet another blow for the club and for Ben personally.

“After returning from time away over Christmas his appearance against Leyton Orient showed everyone what he is capable of and I have no doubt that he will bounce back better than ever.

“I said recently I’ve never seen an injury crisis like this and I can’t believe it’s got worse. Combined with various loan deals expiring it does leave the squad particularly thin.

“However with the transfer window now open we’re working day and night to get the right players in so we can climb the table.”
