Darren Sarll says he hopes to have some of his senior players back for Stevenage’s two games over the Easter period, including the visit of Yeovil Town on Monday that Boro’s caretaker boss describes as a ‘World Cup final’ for his club.

Defenders Dean Wells and Ronnie Henry both missed out on Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Northampton Town through injury.

Sarll hopes that they, along with Aaron O’Connor and Chris Whelpdale, who made the bench at the weekend, will be in contention for Friday’s trip to Oxford United followed by Monday’s home match against the Glovers.

Boro’s caretaker boss has described that second game, against a side just two places above 22nd place Boro in the League Two table, as a ‘World Cup final’ for his team.

“I’m looking at Dean Wells, Chris Whelpdale, Ronnie Henry, Aaron O’Connor,” says Sarll.

“Hopefully we can start getting our senior players back for the tough run in that we’ve got starting Friday and then what is an absolute World Cup final here on Monday.”

Henry signed a contract extension with the club last week, and Sarll believes it’s a ‘coup’ for Boro that their captain has signed on for another year.

“Ronnie’s like me, he’s Stevenage. He wants to be here, stay here. The threat that we’re under doesn’t shake him,” Sarll added.

“He’s willing to do whatever Stevenage need to do to develop and grow as a club.

“It’s pleasing as he’s a massive character. He’s been unbelievable for me with his support, knowledge and experience.

“It’s another coup for the club that people like Ben [Kennedy], Dale [Gorman] and Ryan [Johnson] have got someone like Ronnie Henry on their shoulder for another season.”
