“The best sides talk about not getting beaten on their travels, and we’re doing that” says Westley

Graham Westley says a draw at league leaders Burton Albion on Monday evening was a fair result.

The Stevenage boss watched his side take a 12th minute lead thanks to a Tom Naylor own goal only to then concede through a Bira Dembele own goal just before half-time as the game finished 1-1.

Westley said that his side had done well to grind out the result, a draw which makes it five on the road unbeaten for his side.

“I’d sooner have taken three [points],” the Boro boss said.

“We got off to a very good start in the first half. We took the game to them and we knew where we’d try to exploit them and I thought our threats going forward were very strong in the first half.

“After the break they came out and we had to weather a storm. We had to dig deep, organise and show resilience.”

He added: “You have to keep grinding your points out to improve your position. We had a solid draw at Cambridge where we conceded a late goal, we had a solid draw at Wycombe before that. We had a solid draw at Exeter.

“In all of those games nobody could have complained if we’d have won the points.

“[Against Burton] we got ourselves ahead, [but were] disappointed to concede at a set play.

“Obviously [Keith Keane] has had a chance to clear it and it’s cannoned in off [Dembele].

“It would have been one of those games if we’d have come away 1-0 victors scoring from a set play showing resilience it would have been a good victory.

“Those four draws…the best sides always talk about not getting beaten on their travels. We’re doing that at the moment and that’s a positive.”
