Graham Westley heaps praise on his players

GRAHAM WESTLEY was understandably delighted with his players after their 3-0 win over high-fliers Rotherham United on Tuesday night.

The victory was yet another example of solid defensive play from the back four while at the other end the goals continue to flood in with Boro scoring 12 in their last four home matches.

“The boys worked tremendously hard, they kept another clean sheet and scored the goals to win it so I’m pleased, very pleased,” said Westley.

“They were terrific strikes of very different types. It got the night off to an incredible start with (Peter) Winny’s goal which seemed to move in a thousand different directions before it eventually beat the goalkeeper. It was a tremendous strike after he’d gone up top and ran at (Nick) Fenton and was a nice way to go in at half time.

“Then in the second half, what a fantastic moment for young Byron. He’s come in and he’s only made his third appearance. I thought he did terrifically well on Saturday and he’s worked so hard since he’s been here. It was brilliant work by Sinclair down the right and a terrific finish, and it’s good to see him up and running.”

Despite Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore expressing anger at his team’s display after the final whistle, Westley feels his players deserve credit for restricting the automatic promotion-chasers to very few goalscoring chances.

He added: “I thought they worked very hard, Rotherham, but I think it’s all well and good looking at opponents and saying they didn’t do this well or that well. I think you’ve got to give credit to our players and say we didn’t let them play.

“They’re talking about millions of pounds for Le Fondre but you look at our back two tonight and thought well they’ve dominated them, they’ve dominated his partner. I like Taylor, I like Le Fondre and they’re a right handful but I think you’ve got to give a hand to our players.”
