Striker hopes to reward Graham Westley’s faith in him
Boro new boy Byron Harrison says he is delighted with his move to Stevenage and hopes to reward the faith shown in him by Graham Westley.
Harrison signed last week from Carshalton Athletic on a deal until the end of the season and made his debut against Gillingham on Saturday before taking a place on the bench against Barnet on Monday.
Speaking after the Barnet game, Harrison told The Comet he enjoyed every minute of his debut.
“It was definitely different to the standard I’ve been playing,” Harrison said. “I enjoyed every moment of it. It was my league debut and I just soaked in the atmosphere and tried to give my all.
“This happened very quickly. It happened over the last week. I think obviously [Stevenage have] known about me for over a year but this process happened over the last week. They watched me first, I came in and played in a practice match and then I was starting for Stevenage.
“It shows the manager’s willing to give me a chance down here and put me in situations and see how I do and that makes me want to work harder for him when he shows that belief in me and I want to reward that belief in me.”
Harrison is cup-tied for the Newcastle United FA Cup game this weekend but expects a good atmosphere in training before the game.
“I’m cup tied for it but I’ll be there taking in the experience,” he added. “Training will be buzzing this week so it’ll be good to be involved with that.”
