We could have scored four or five - Phil Wallace
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said his side could have beaten a ‘very strong’ Newcastle United side by more than the 3-1 scoreline in their FA Cup game on Saturday evening.
Boro outplayed their north east opponents and goals from Stacy Long, Michael Bostwick and Peter Winn sealed the historic win.
Speaking after the game, Wallace said: “It was a very, very strong [side]. Their directors were saying before the game they couldn’t believe how strong a side they picked.
“I thought the best team won by a long, long way. We scored three but could have got four or five and their goal was their only chance I thought.
“You wouldn’t expect to beat a Premier League side by right. You always hope but we’ve been to Wembley three times in four years, we’ve won a championship with Luton, Mansfield, Wrexham and everyone else in it and this is a continuation of the progression.
Everyone was magnificent today. [It was a] brilliant performance.”
