HITCHIN Hearts hit visitors Runwell Hospital for six in the FA Women's Cup.

Their first competitive match of the season was against the Essex side who made the trek over to Ickleford on Sunday morning.

Hearts, who play in the Beds and Herts Women's League, soon eased any pre-match nerves as Ollie Olsson opened the scoring after just 10 minutes.

Gemma Penny added a second after 22 minutes and several other chances went begging.

Hearts keeper Mel Sayer made a brilliant save at the foot of her post just before the break.

Katerina Hamplova scored the third after 65 minutes and substitute Laura Ravenscroft then scored with her first touch of the ball.

The scoring continued with these two adding the fifth and sixth goals to make it a happy day for manager John Hawkins who said: "I couldn't name a player of the match; the whole side played superbly".

That included Kirsty Morley, who was making her debut for the team, and Tracy Ross who missed a penalty that would have been just reward for all her hard work.

Hearts will start their league campaign at Sandy this Sunday.

Arlesey Town Ladies' excellent start to the season continued with an 8-2 win over Daventry Ladies in the FA Women's Cup.

After a slow start which saw the visitors take the lead, Arlesey responded with excellent attacking football to ensure progression to the next round.

Arlesey dominated possession for the entire game and were rewarded with goals from Sarah Tayler (two), Hana Kratochvilova (two), Karen Clark (two), Michelle Whitehead and Mia Price.

Manager's player of the match was Claire Hodgson at right-back and players' player of the match was Kratochvilova.

New side Baldock Ladies won 5-1 in their opening league game against the second team of Arlesey Town Ladies.

Bonni Woodward opened their scoring for the season from a Becky Day corner. Then Jodie Beaumont got a second for Baldock before Arlesey pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Beaumont scored again and Leanne Dunston set up Michelle Smith for a fourth goal by half time.

There was only goal in the second half, Smith netting from a free-kick.

Arlesey's scorer was Kayleigh Saunders from the penalty spot. Manager's player was awarded to Tamsin Warren and the players' player to Louise Gash.
