Weekend football round-up

Hitchin Town's Easter weekend saw them in action against sides from opposite ends of the Southern League Premier division. On Saturday The Canaries drew 0-0 at bottom club Chesham United in a low-key affair and then lost 4-1 at home to local rivals Bedford Town, a result which clinched Bedford's place in the play-offs.

In Division One East Arlesey Town shared six goals with relegation-threatened Ilford on Saturday. Michael McKenzie put Arlesey ahead but the Blues found themselves 3-1 down with 15 minutes left. Two goals inside a minute from Lee Ward and McKenzie rescued a point. Nine minutes injury time at the end only added to the excitement. There was no comeback for Arlesey on Monday. They went down 3-1 at Stamford.

It's going right to the wire in the race for the Eagle Bitter United Counties League Premier Division title. Potton United went into the Easter weekend without a win in three matches, one point behind Woodford United and one ahead of Northampton Spencer, with Woodford having played a game less than their two rivals. Goals from Keith Coughlin and Ian Morrison earned Potton a 2-1 win at home to Blackstones. Northampton Spencer also won while Woodford were held at home, which meant Potton moved a point clear of both their rivals at the top. And that's how it remained after Monday's matches with a late goal from substitute Tom Beech giving Potton a 1-0 win at Stotfold while Woodford and Northampton Spencer both won.

Stotfold had lost 2-0 to Stewarts & Lloyds, Corby, on Saturday.

In the Minerva Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division Langford slipped into the bottom three after a 4-0 home defeat by Biggleswade Town. Warren Grieve, Dwayne Williams, Ryan Jenner and Bobby Dance getting the goals. Biggleswade United lost 3-1 at league leaders Oxford City with Keith Thomas scoring United's consolation.
