Biggleswade Town marched into the next round of the FA Cup with an emphatic 4-2 win over Clapton.

The home team started well on Saturday in the extra preliminary round tie and soon put the Essex Senior County League side under pressure.

This was rewarded in the 19th minute when a cross was deflected into his own net by Clapton defender Arthur Hook. More chances came but Biggleswade were unable to take them and they had a scare when goalkeeper Lee Robinson saved a one-on-one situation midway through the half.

Clapton got back in the game after 35 minutes through a penalty given harshly against Kevin Randall and five minutes later the visitors took the lead, much against the run of play.

Shellshocked Biggleswade came out for the second half in a determined mood and immediately pressed forward. They were awarded the second penalty of the game on 61 minutes and Adam Furness made no mistake with a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

The Waders continued to dominate play and deservedly took the lead through Warren Grieve, who headed home from a 75th minute corner.

And the game was sewn up five minutes later when Furness grabbed his second of the game.

Town host Leighton Town in the next round on Saturday, September 2.
