Langford Ladies returned from their trip to Norwich City Canaries with a deserved 2-1 win on Sunday.

They were second best for the first quarter of an hour as Norwich looked the more dangerous side.

Langford started to create chances as the half progressed, with Faye Rees having a goal disallowed for offside and neither Rees nor Shelley Forster able to get on the end of a cross from Nikki Day following a flowing move.

Norwich opened the scoring when a free-kick beat keeper Verity Crook on 25 minutes.

Langford responded eight minutes later when Sheree Oliver collected the ball 20 yards inside her own half and dribbled 70 yards to Norwich's by-line, before laying a pass into Naomi Lyon's run for a superb equaliser.

The half ended even and Langford started the second half much sharper as they found their passing game and started to pressure the Canaries for long periods.

Emma Tune became a prominent figure as she attacked down Langford's right.

Her penetrating run into the box and subsequent pass found Lyon who bundled the ball over the line to put Langford in front.

Norwich's only clear chance was well saved by Crook and cleared by the covering Debbie Styles.

Langford could have actually increased their lead but found Norwich's keeper in great form as she foiled Tune, Lyon, sub Frankie Locock and Styles with a series of saves before the final whistle.

Langford squad: Verity Crook, Nikki Day, Sheree Oliver, Sophie Bailey, Debbie Styles, Emma Tune, Laveena Betts (Frankie Locock 75m), Laura Bright, Shelley Forster, Naomi Lyon, Faye Rees.

Form counted for nothing as Hitchin Hearts made light work of Leverstock Green in the Beds and Herts Women's League.

Their opponents were on a tremendous run of six straight league wins, barely conceding a goal in the process.

But Hearts won 3-0 to show their managers John Hawkins and Phil Sayer they are worthy of top spot in the league following a couple of below-par performances.

They came out firing on all cylinders and within 10 minutes of the start, fit-again Ollie Olsson had given the visitors a two-goal lead.

Ronnie D'Amico headed a third before half-time.

Hearts kept the pace up in the second half despite the wet and windy conditions and fully deserved their win.

The only downside was that their captain Paula Hawkins was involved in a nasty collision and sustained a shoulder injury. She went to hospital for a check-up before getting the all clear.
