Stevenage and North Herts AC won 24 golds at this year's Hertfordshire county championships at Watford on Sunday.

Three of the wins were championship best performances.

Anne Rees won the under-15 girls' pole vault with a record height of 2.50m.

In the pole vault in the under-20 women's age group, Louise Shortland broke the championship record with a height of 3.30m to win.

Shelley McLellan's distance of 12.70m in the senior women's shot was enough to win in a record-breaking distance.

She continued her recovery from injury to break the previous county record which had stood for 26 years. Her third round throw took the title by more than a metre.

Shelley led the McLellan clan to three gold medals. Brother Neil regained his javelin title with a throw of 69.70m and Helene, Neil's wife, took the women's javelin title with a winning throw of 24.83m.

In the under-13 age group, Alex Gates won the girls' long jump (3.86m) and Alice Rackman won silver in the high jump (1m).

Peter De'ath (29.26) and Tom Sheren (30.01) made it a one-two for the club in the 200m and Billy Vernon-Hamilton was first in the shot with 7.33m and Jack Gates won the javelin with 16.03m.

The other athletes in this age group were Sarah Pike 800m (2:54.56), Ben Pearson 200m (31.36) and Paul Spicer 800m (2:45.12).

Chloe Vernon-Hamilton and Frances Gross were second in the shot (7.14m) and discus (20.92) respectively in the under-15 girls' events.

In the boys' triple jump, Connor Winter was first with 9.38m and he added two silver medals to his collection in the pole vault (2.20m) and long jump (4.49m).

Others competing in this age group were Louise O'Connell 800m (2:35.06), Karen Meadows 800m (2:45.98), Ashleigh Clarke 75m hurdles (13.83), Bethan Scanes (3.77m) and Hannah Sweetman (3.38) in the long jump, Ben Giles 100m (13.91), Lewis Keeble (2:18.20) David Pickett (2:24.65) and David O'Connell (2:45.83) in the 800m.

In the under-17 girls' disciplines, Bunmi Awokoya was first in the 100m in 12.76 and second in the 200m (26.54) and shot (9.65m). Joanne Mansell won the 800m (2:17.88) and Rachel Williams was second in the javelin (30.52m).

Glen Begley recorded a distance of 5.70m to win the long jump.

Others taking part in this age group were Loren Scanes discus (22:02m), Aaron Reynolds ran the 400m in 56.48, while Sam McCormick (2:25.88), Francesca Witney (2:28.17), Helen Bailey (2:43.60), Callum McKechnie (2:18.39) and Josh Moss (2:21.29) took part in the 800m.

In the under-20 women's section, Kayleigh Pybus won both the shot and discus with 9.67m and 28.64m.

Jasmine Forde was first in the 800m (2:26.23) and Megan Bowles took second in the hammer (24.43m).

Sarah Bailey won silver in the 800m (2:27.35) and Rebecca Newstead ran 2:42.29 in the 800m and Tilly Scheubar 2:48.26.

Daniel Poulton ran 1:59.35 to win the under-20 men's 800m with Sam Poulton coming home third in 2:01.64.

Aaron Hull threw 41.22m to win the javelin and Laurie Pirie was second in the high jump (1.81m) and long jump (5.49m). Marcus McKechnie was second in the 2000m steeplechase in 7:03.47.

Emma Kemp won three golds in the senior women's events. She ran 12.59, 25.29 and 55.68 to win the 100m, 200m and 400m.

Sarah Downs ran 19:53.6 to win the 5000m and Helene McLellan won the javelin. Adam Searle ran 2:10.43 in the senior men's 800m, Neil McLellan won the javelin and Mick Shortland threw 27.24m to win the men's over-50 hammer competition.
