ALL three North Herts League sides were beaten in the last eight of the Herts Junior Cup.

Premier Division champs St Ippolyts went out 1-0 at Mill End Sports to a second-half goal in a tight game.

Kimpton Rovers lost 4-2 at home to Park Street Village as a brace from leading scorer Craig Barnes was not enough.

Wilbury Wanderers were beaten 5-0 at home by Bengeo Trinity.

Bengeo scored two goals in the space of five minutes midway through the first half and only good goalkeeping from Neil Kitchener kept the score down.

In the league, the Benevolent Shield started. With so few clubs, the competition now has three groups with the winners and the best runner-up going into the semis.

In Group B, Bedwell Rangers won 2-0 at Codicote A. Both goals were created by fine runs on the right from Michael Wells with first John Johnston scoring and then Grant Sullivan securing the win.

The other game in the group saw a seven-goal thriller with Premier Division side Whitwell Village having to fight all the way to beat AFC Santos 4-3.

There was only a goal between the sides all the way and Whitwell scored their winner with eight minutes left.

AFC Santos had a great opportunity to draw level but Nuno Canteiro missed from four yards out.

Whitwell's scorers were Wayne Mullooly (two), Nathan Grinsted and Simon Chipperfield. First Division AFC Santos scored through Matthew Arlick, Canteiro and Martin Farrer.

There was only one game in Group C which was abandoned after 80 minutes when Nigel Tingley of Woolmer Green broke his leg.

Stevenage Council Club were winning 4-3 at the time of the injury and now the committee will have to decide the outcome.

A brace from Dave Clements, Colin Field and a Kenny Slack penalty were the council club scorers. Woolmer had replied with a Wayne Campbell penalty, Lee Keen and Tom Younger.

With the county cup and Benevolent Shield fixtures, there were no Premier Division games.

In Division One, leaders Baldock Res were made to struggle all the way against City Hearts before winning 4-2.

A hat-trick from Adam Shelley and a cracking 25-yarder from Sam Crow secured the points for the leaders. City Hearts replied through Michael Brittain and Danny Eely.

There was a major shock when second placed Magnum suffered a major setback in their fight for the title when they were held 1-1 by bottom side Cricketers Weston.

Jamal Uddin scored for Magnum while Peter Leete netted for Cricketers.

Magnum must be kicking themselves as they missed two penalties. Cricketers' keeper Barry Hay had an outstanding game and saved the second penalty with two minutes left.

The final game was a mid-table clash which saw Bedwell Rangers Res beat Fairlands 3-1. A brace for Oliver Roworth and a Ross Gittings goal were Bedwell's scorers. Fairlands' reply came from leading scorer Kenny Liggett. Trio are beaten
