Two out of three Hitchin Sunday League sides involved in the first round of the Herts Sunday Senior Cup progressed into the next round after a rain-sodden weekend of football.

HTS Barleycorn hosted Inter, and performed well to record a 6-0 victory.

Kcinsatop were also at home, playing against Finchley United, in a close encounter that could have gone either way, they held out to progress with a 4-3 win.

The only side eliminated were Red Star who welcomed Vision to King George's. Vision left happy after securing a 3-2 victory.

Two games took place in the Premier Division and neither will have captured the imagination of any neutral watching.

PJ Hitchin thumped Cannon 7-1, Ryan Foster (three), Craig Skelton (two), Adrian Turner and Richard Szarvas scoring for PJ while Liam Gent notched for Cannon who thanks to the withdrawal of Baldock Engine from the league now sit for the time being on the top of the table.

Whitwell were 4-0 home winners over Crown Stotfold.

In Division One, AC Malone's perfect start to the season continued as they secured another win away to Jackmans Jackdaws. Sean Duignan hit a hat-trick while Kyle Stephenson also got on the scoresheet.

Shillington beat Whitwell Res 2-0 while Kcinsatop Res beat another of the reserve sides, HTS Barleycorn Res 2-1.

There was an eight-goal thriller between Wanderers and Chequers Sunday, eventually the team from Stotfold secured all the points with goals from Nicky Bendon (three), Dan Eely and an own goal giving Stotfold a 5-3 win.

Operation Swordfish were singing in the rain as they recorded victory number four of the season, a 7-1 rout of Red Hart, in Division Two.

The Harts put in a creditable show against the division's high flyers and were rewarded with Adam Myers goal to show for their efforts. However Karl Milligan (two), Neil Smith, Harry Holland, Anthony Bowskill, Clive Wetherall and an own goal found their way in at the other end.

North Herts Hatters and Ocean's Eleven shared the points after a 3-3 draw. Marcus Sarll, Eddie Kemp and Neil Walker scored for the Hatters while Glen Stuart, Ross Pateman and Martin Clark bagged for Ocean's.

Clifton Sunday recorded their first win of the new campaign after taking all three points from the visit to Dynamo Letchworth, Chris Coveney scored a scorcher from 20 yards on his way to two goals, while Glenn Clarke scored his first of the season to seal the victory.

In Division Three, LGC Spartans recorded their first ever league victory defeating Wanderers Res 1-0 with a goal from Gavin Stapleton.

Wilbury lost ground on the top two after a 2-0 defeat to Athletico Hitchin (Paul Regan and Stephen Oakman) who now along with Green Man Ickleford have opened up a six-point gap from the third placed team and already look like strong promotion candidates.

Walsworth now sit third and the 'entertainers', who have been involved in five matches featuring 39 goals so far, walloped Paynes Park 11-1.
