The Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League round-up

Two of the three Premier Division sides made it through to round two of the county cup, where they join the other six who received a bye as Sunday saw some atrocious wet conditions (writes Darren 'Statto' Jones).

DC Outbar were grateful for a break in league action and stormed into a three-goal lead within half an hour thanks to Dave Byatt, Martin Gono's first for the club and Josh Dance. MK Ginder made it a tense finish when they pulled one back before half-time and a second on the hour mark.

Mallard went behind before Glen Lamacraft rounded the Hemel Rovers keeper to level.

Tommy Henry then shrugged aside a defender before a neat finish before an Andy Pilgrim free-kick was sent in for new signing Bobby Dance to head home a third. Jim Bywater smashed home off the post before the home side grabbed a late consolation.

The only Premier Division side not in the second round are Bedwell Athletic who were well beaten by AFC Rangers.

In a county cup game brought forward a week, Roebuck Gate scraped through to round three of the junior cup despite defending for the brunt of the first half.

Scott Apps fired through a sea of bodies before the Thorley Saints keeper was equal to Andy Hall's spot-kick. The second-half saw Mark Edwards and Apps net before they conceded via a deflected effort in the closing stages and saw the opposition miss a penalty themselves.

The other 13 sides attempt to join them this Sunday.

An incredible match in the Premier Division saw Nirankari Sports Sabha produce a stunning turnaround. John Vooght (two), Scott Mahoney and Nick Wellings put old rivals Dun Cow in dreamland by way of a four-goal lead.

However, after pulling back two before the break, Sabha completed an amazing day by hitting six without reply through Andrew Levy (two), Adrian Spence, Jason O'Sullivan, Scott Orphanou and Rick Case.

A man of the match performance by makeshift centre-back Gary Pomfret helped ensure Probuild came away with three points.

Terry Pateman and Tony Lister (two, including a penalty) scored before JAP Builders had a goal disallowed. Sam Lawrence grabbed a consolation.

MH Goldsmith's perfect start was ended by the team that pipped them to last season's Division One title.

Last season's website Golden Boot winner Steve Teale was the hero with a hat-trick for Roebuck Scaffolding. Dave Pateman netted the other. Both teams had a man dismissed, Chris Bunker went for Roebuck.

In Division One, a meeting of the relegated sides saw a rampant Bottles overcome a lacklustre Broadhall with ease due to a masterclass display from Rob Yates.

He set up no less than seven of their strikes, the first coming from Rob Verdia, before a 30-yard Dean Horsley strike doubled the lead. Verdia's second and an Andrew Yates strike made it four at half time.

Verdia completed a hat-trick, Dean McCullagh hit a brace and James Selby and Ryan Ellis also got in on the act. The final goal saw the impressive find Verdia make it double figures.

The three division promotion does not seem to have harmed Nirankari Sports Sabha Res as Russell Bull hit another four as part of double figures as they sit top of the pile. Fox replied through Simon Flecknell, Johnny Gardner and Kev Ward.

Dun Cow Res were beaten for the second successive week. Pin Green's opener came against nine men when Dave Baldwin produced a superb finish. Colin Field finished well to double the lead against the now 10 men.

With a full quota of 11, last season's county cup winners only managed a Danny Lane strike in reply, albeit from 35 yards.

Due to the conditions, Putterills took the lead against the run of play when Jack Mitchell struck home through a crowd of players from a corner.

Emperors Head found an equaliser from Matt Arlick from the edge of the box into the top corner.

They turned it around with a soft penalty when Sam Archer was felled, which was duly dispatched down the middle by Arlick. The on-fire Arlick completed a first half hat-trick with another stunner from the edge of the box.

Putterills conceded again when a poor goal-kick led to Scott Storti being caught in possession and Chris Goodyear slotted home.

In Division Two, Paul King and Neil Parker were on target for leaders Stevenage Colts Old Boys against Times Club (Karl Rickaby) as last season's bottom two in Division One met.

Darren Lovelock's header gave Marquis of Lorne an early lead before King Pin United pulled themselves level thanks to a superb solo effort from Mark Wright.

King Pin took control after the break and a good passing move was finished off by Dave Holmes. Steve Buckley got a brace with headers from corners and sandwiched between was a penalty save by the Marquis keeper.

Hartham Press absorbed most of Pro-Cladd's pressure for the first-half, going in one down. They came out and attacked more in the second half and with half an hour to go, James Khakpour-Smith slid on to an Aldo Chiapetta cross to level.

They went behind to a penalty which also saw Hartham reduced to 10 men. Michael Fortune produced a quality chip from outside of the box to level again.

Then, after conceding again, Andy Parrish equalised for a third time with a header. The 10 men tired as Pro-Cladd scored two more late on.

Old Town Wetherspoons picked up their first win of the season as they won a nine-goal thriller against Breachwood Lions (George Harrison, two, Graham French and Edison Jeffery). Three-one at the break thanks to Tony Davies, Leigh Mardlin and Stuart Archer. The scores were level before Lee Hollingsworth put OTW in front again, a further leveller meant Mike Coombes' penalty won it.

Division Three leaders Stevenage Leisure Ltd raced into a five-goal lead by half time. Carl Smith finished with four and Jason Drackford a hat-trick, while Chris Tillbrook also popped up with a goal. Chequers made a fight of it in the second half, Gary Gibson (two), Carl Thompson and an own goal saw them half SLL's eight.

Tom Bowgett (four), Michael Gwilliam, Gary Smith and Ben Roskilly saw Stevenage Fencing inflict another big defeat on Red Lion Woolmer Green.

MBDA won their fourth game on the trot in all competitions and a third clean sheet as Craig Sutherill smashed home the only goal with 20 minutes remaining. A late Probuild Res surge could not quite bring them a point.

A magnificent game saw eight goals shared. Darren Curry hit a powerful cross-shot past Scotty Taylor's left-hand side to give North Herts Celtic the lead against MC Racing.

Darren Pitch equalised before Curry netted again from close-range before a peach from Ross Taylor. Nik Tribe gave MC the lead with a looping shot before an own goal made it 4-2. The impressive Curry completed his hat-trick before netting his and Celtic's fourth in a classic game.

Three teams made it maximum points from three games in Division Four.

Luke Hardy (two), Gareth Parry and Mark Warburton were on target for Stevenage Colts Old Boys Res against Fox Res.

Coach and Horses opened the scoring when Dan Hartland scored from the spot after he was fouled himself. Ben Sheldrake equalised before the break for Athletico Timebridge.

Terry Lock and John Dunne each scored for Athletico before another Hartland strike and a Tom Glading penalty, his fifth of the season already. With just a minute of normal time left, Lock scored with another shot deflected home, this time off the bar, before Ricky Kyle rubbed salt into the wound with a fifth.

Yorkshire Grey took the lead through Lewis Sealy before a quick reply from Great Ashby levelled the scores at half-time thanks to Shaun Grainger.

Grey scored twice when crosses from Robbie Freeman were each met by the head of Sealy and Lewis Essam. The final goal came as Sealy netted his second hat-trick in a row.
