THERE was a double success at national finals for one of the winners at this year's Comet Sports Awards.
Hitchin Girls' School scooped the schools' award (11 and over) at the awards night in January.
Two of their pupils, Faye Barnard and Abigail Mackinnon-Austin, competed in the schools' modern biathlon championships in Norwich.
Outstanding performances saw Faye finish runner-up in the Year 11 competition, taking the title for the fastest swim in her age group, with Abigail coming home ranked 10th in the country in the Year Eight event.
Faye was also a member of the school's swimming team that clinched fifth place in the final of the intermediate freestyle event at the 48th Bazuka Senior School Team Championships in Macclesfield earlier in the month.
The quartet of Faye, Emma Keen, Rebecca Allen and Laura West performed superbly to achieve a best time of 1:57.34.
