Biggleswade Swimming Club hosted its annual Summer Trophy Invitation Gala on Saturday.

Although only two of the visiting clubs arrived with full teams, the night was packed with excitement.

Linslade Crusaders and Chatteris joined Biggleswade's Blue and Yellow teams for an evening of great swimming.

Biggleswade started the gala off with a nailbiting first event (girls' 15 plus 100m individual medley) swum by Susan Morris for Blue and Helen Baldrance for Yellow.

The result was a dead heat with both swimmers finishing in a time of 1:13.08, a personal best for Helen and a club record for Susan.

Out of the 49 events, Biggleswade Blue notched up 32 first places, 12 seconds and three thirds.

Swimming with a reduced team and so not being able to compete in all events, Yellow scored four firsts, 11 seconds and 18 thirds.

Biggleswade recorded 55 personal bests and a further three club records were set.

In the nine year age group, Emily McConnell beat her own club record swimming the 50m backstroke in a time of 43.25.

Adam Ingledew took the 13 years 100m backstroke in a time of 1:05.22, beating his own record.

Louise King took the 15 years 50m freestyle in a time of 29.16.

P If you are interested in joining Biggleswade and can swim 100m in backstroke and breaststroke, and 200m freestyle, please call the club on 07791 674508.

Or go along on Sunday evenings at 4.30pm.

Junior swimmers from eight-years-old are especially welcome.
