Saturday football round-up

Stotfold went down by the odd goal in five at their future FA Vase opponents Wellingborough.

It all looked so promising as they went ahead on five minutes.

Ian Thorne's good run into the penalty box ended with a chip to the far post for Jermaine Daley to head down past goalie John Hughes.

Nigel Blower's fantastic save soon after protected the lead before Daley and Thorne swapped roles with the latter first seeing his shot blocked and then having the rebound parried wide.

Wellingborough's equaliser came on 12 minutes with Blower's moment of indecision costly.

David Bond was clean through on the right and the keeper retreated inside of collecting the ball to allow Bond to shoot low to the far post.

The home side enjoyed what few opportunities there were in the remainder of the half.

Former Arlesey Athletic man Thorne nearly put his new side 2-1 up on the restart as his dipping shot from outside the box hit the post.

Two goals in six minutes bagged Wellingborough the points,

Tim Wooding's free-kick was deflected towards goal and tipped under the bar by Blower, who was trying to push the ball over instead.

Then Jamie Gilsenan threaded the ball through for John Mitchell to shoot low under Blower.

Stotfold halved the deficit on 86 minutes when Shaun Turner chipped to the far post for Craig Reynolds to volley home.

Langford won 5-2 at Kingsbury London Tigers in the SML Premier Division.

The first of four justified penalties awarded saw the Reds go ahead after four minutes and the home team down to 10 men.

Wes Byrne was brought down, Marcos Lansiquot shown the red, and Robert Groves scored from the spot.

Dorian Small fouled John Muneghina for Kingsbury's first spot-kick of the afternoon, Leonardo Ferreira converting.

Byrne put Langford back in front on 36 minutes and John Coley added a third just before the break.

Muneghina was fouled after the break for Kingsbury's second penalty of the afternoon, Yousef Eltresi making no mistake this time.

Groves missed his second attempt from the spot minutes later when Coley was clattered and Gareth Grant then also hit a post.

The subs supplied the final two goals in the last quarter of an hour.

Joe Delasalle's free-kick was deflected past his own keeper by Marco Leite and Rhys Davies crossed for Lee Pateman to head a fifth in the final minute.

Arlesey Athletic made it nine goals conceded in four days as they crashed 5-0 at Ampthill in the SML Division One following their midweek loss at Bedford Valerio Utd.
