Stevenage Boro Vixens have been awarded a BT Community Champions award.

The £375 grant is thanks to the voluntary work of Val Agnew, a BT global account director.

BT Community Champions awards BT people with funding of local community groups where they work on a voluntary basis.

Following the fourth review this season, funding has been allocated to a variety of groups who demonstrated how the award would make a difference to their group and benefit their local community.

The Vixens are one of hundreds that applied for an award during review four of the scheme and impressed the judges with their link to the sports leader youth programme.

The club offers their players the opportunity to take the award through football.

The Sports Leaders UK Young Leader Award is a nationally recognised programme and can be used to enhance delivery of the national curriculum and helps to deliver leadership skills by working with others.

The club is using the BT award to support the activity for this programme.

Val Agnew said: "We are pleased with our BT Community Champions award.

"This will help us to provide the Sports Leader Programme to our players and support the mix of football and education, giving the girls a head start in their development."

The club is also looking to enhance their development plans and provide the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme as part of player development.

Vixens are keen to encourage new players into the club by running awards in conjunction with the sport.

The Charter Standard Club offers girls from the age of eight to ladies the opportunity to play competitive football and is always interested to hear from new girls.
