The 25-year-old’s contract at the U’s was mutually terminated in April, and in his first match against his old side, he was jeered from the start.
However, Guthrie silenced them in the 44th minute, heading in an equaliser before running off with his finger to his lips and performing a knee-slide in front of the visitor’s dugout.

Boro went on to score two more in the second-half, with the Jersey-born forward assisting Emmanuel Sonupe for Boro’s third.
Speaking after the game, Guthrie said: “I let the football do the talking, and they (Colchester’s fans) soon stopped talking.

“It silenced them which is nice.
“They should know by now, it (the jeering) fuels me. I love it.

“I think we controlled the game and gave the fans exactly what they wanted to see. It was a great atmosphere and great result.”
The close-range header was Guthrie’s first in League Two for Stevenage, and he was delighted to get off the mark.

Guthrie added: “I’ve been chomping at the bit to get a start down the middle, that’s my preferred position, where I want to be playing.
“The gaffer rewarded me with that and I’d like to think I’ve repaid him.”

The pacey striker had to leave the pitch in injury-time, and Maamria said the striker had dislocated his shoulder.
However, Guthrie said: “It’s sore but it’s not enough to dampen my spirits today.”
