Stevenage boss Dino Maamria described his side’s 3-0 win over Carlisle United as Boro’s ‘performance of the season’ after they kept their Sky Bet League Two play-off dream alive at the Lamex on Saturday.

Arthur Iontton’s first senior goal and a brace from Kurtis Guthrie secured all three points in a dominant display against the Cumbrians – who registered just one shot on target all afternoon.

Maamria was delighted with his sides display, hailing it as one of their best this season.

“I was debating whether that was the performance of the season in the dressing room,” he said.

“We’ve had some good games here, coming back against Oldham and MK Dons, but this is up there with them.

“We kept a clean sheet today, I thought we were fantastic from start to finish, we were on the front foot, and we pressed them. They only had one shot on target.

“The only disappointing thing was would we could have had more goals in the first-half.

“Second-half, my message was to do more of them same, not to sit back and score more goals. We did that, although three goals maybe could have been four or five.

“It’s the performance I’ve been waiting for. We could have had more goals but it was a good team performance, with a lot of good individual performances.

“I’m probably more impatient than the Stevenage fans when it comes to wanting a good performance. It’s my first full season, it’s a work in progress, but that’s the type of football we want to see here and we’ll keeping working on it.”

Maamria was also pleased with his sides pressing, adding: “We’ve been working on pressing from the front.

“It’s all about doing the leg work, high intensity running and sprints. I’ve been measuring those things, so I’d love to see the stats in terms of distance run.

“That’s what you need to not let the opposition play. That was our game plan and we did it well.”
