Stevenage Ladies are on a record high after Saturday's vital victory.

An emphatic 3-1 win at the weekend over Broxbourne moved Stevenage into fourth in the East League Division Two South and a record position for the team.

Previously level pegging with Broxbourne on points, a win was important for both sides in the fight for position in the division.

The match started with a share of possession and goalscoring opportunities but it was Broxbourne who were first to capitalise when a goalmouth scramble resulted in them forcing the ball over the line to take the lead.

Stevenage responded minutes later when Kath Phoenix made a penetrating run into the D before crossing the ball to Steph Fanthorpe who was waiting on the far post to sweep the ball home for the equaliser.

Fanthorpe has a 100 per cent scoring record in her appearances for the first XI.

Stevenage maintained possession for the rest of the half and were rewarded with a goal from a penalty corner decision when Phoenix lifted the ball on a rebounded save over the committed Broxbourne keeper.

They never looked like letting their lead go in the second half with some stalwart defending from the back line.

Despite tired legs as time ticked away, a moment of brilliance from right-back and player of the match Jo Biggs secured the result.

Intercepting a Broxbourne attack down the left, Biggs ran three-quarters of the pitch and into the D before calmly flicking the ball beyond the keeper for Stevenage's third goal and her first of the season.

The second team of Blueharts Ladies won 4-1 in a friendly fixture against Leighton Buzzard.

Despite being a player short, Harts dominated the game and led 2-0 at the break with goals coming from Jay Livermore and Gina Joseph.

Buzzard pulled one back after the interval but player of the match Livermore fed some perfect passes into the D for Joseph to strike home twice more and give her a hat-trick.
