DARTS: Stevenage ace Denis Ovens made the last eight of the World Series of Darts in America.
Ovens picked up $10,000 for reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Hotel Resort in Connecticut.
He beat Bill Davis and Andy Jenkins on his way to losing to beaten finalist Adrian Lewis. Phil Taylor was the overall winner.
GOLF: RAF Henlow golfers competed in wet and blustery conditions for their May stableford competition.
Club captain Matt McLaughlin (14) won for the second consecutive week, beating the conditions with a good 37 points.
Daz Collins (20) and Graham Byatt (17) were next with a creditable 36 points.
The captain's charity competition nearest the pin prize went to Gordon Rimmer who hit a nine iron to eight feet at the third hole.
BOWLS: Hitchin Town won their weekend matches in wet and windy conditions.
Hitchin won at Stevenage Town on Saturday by 43 shots (96-53) and took three of the four rinks.
The top rink for Hitchin was a strong 22-shot win for Roy Cole, John Hill, Geoff Munge and Ian Thorne.
Rink one: S Hearne, N MacLeod, I Page, A Hill won 23-12.
Rink two: R Cole, J Hill, G Munge, I Thorne won 33-11.
Rink three: M Squires, D Conder, J Dyer, A Cook won 29-8.
Rink four: D Downham, N Webb, W Harrison, L Lane lost 11-22.
Sunday saw Hitchin perform even better with a 64-shot win (111-47) over the visiting Three Horseshoes.
Hitchin adapted well to the wet weather to win on all four rinks. The highest rink was a massive 34 shots by John Porter, Des Owens, Shay Mumford and Stuart Dawson.
Rink one: J Porter, D Owens, S Mumford, S Dawson won 39-5.
Rink two: K Porter, N Webb, G Munge, G Walker won 20-15.
Rink three: G Williams, J Squires, M Wadsworth, A Hill won 20-17.
Rink four: M Squires, J Dawson, D Porter, L Lane won 32-10.
There were mixed results for Hitchin Town's midweek bowlers.
They won by two shots (62-60) at Royston having won on only one rink out of four.
A winning result was secured by a win of plus eight shots for Win Ingram, Joan Dyer and Roy Cole on rink five.
Hitchin were beaten by Letchworth Town by 31 shots (50-81) having again won on only one rink out of four.
