Stotfold cyclist Victoria Pendleton won a Silver medal for England this morning (Thursday) in her first event of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Pendleton picked up her silver medal in the Women's 500m time trial behind Australia's Anna Meares.

Pendleton was fourth out of the five girls to race in the event and sprinted into the gold medal position with a games record of 34.662 however she only held it briefly as Anna Meares, who was next to ride, recorded a time of 34.326 taking the Gold medal and the Games Record.

Anna Meares' sister Kerrie Meares took the bronze medal position with a time of 35.210.
