Fly half kicks a conversion in defeat to London Irish
FORMER Letchworth fly-half Glyn Hughes has made his first team debut for Northampton Saints.
The 19-year-old came on for the final nine minutes and scored an 80th minute conversion as the Saints lost 37-20 to London Irish yesterday (Sunday) in the LV Cup.
Hughes has dual registration with Cambridge and has been in action for the National One side this season but was delighted with his debut and said afterwards that he cannot wait to get more game time.
“It’s nice to get some game time, getting on the pitch,” Hughes told the Saints’ website.
“I feel like my game’s coming on a lot, so getting the game time is an opportunity to prove myself.
“It was a pretty full on game (with) a lot of solid tackles. I was sitting on the bench, looking at it and thinking ‘gee, I’d like to get into that’.
“I’ve been getting some game time (at Cambridge). It’s a very good standard at National One. Cambridge play some good rugby so it’s given me a good opportunity to progress my game.
“I’m getting more confident within the team environment and I can also transfer it back to the Saints.”
