Hitchin Ladies First XV remain unbeaten this season and stay top of the league after a 29-12 win over Tabard on Saturday in a game which ended prematurely following a serious injury.
The visitors took the lead in the opening minutes, but the Hedgehogs quickly struck back thanks to tries from Jade Cooper, Nicky Cameron and a double from Sarah Bennett.
Tabard did get a try back before Jess Eden scored her first for Hitchin to round off the scoring.
However, an opposition player dislocated her elbow in the build-up to the that final try, which saw the game stopped before the break.
Tabard took an early lead when their winger and best player on the afternoon broke clear and raced away to score for 5-0.
The game was levelled up shortly afterwards though when Hitchin moved the ball quickly through the hands from left to right before Cooper crossed over.
The Hedgehogs then got a breakaway try of their own to take a 10-5 lead after Bennett found a good line and burst through to score.
Bennett then got her second of the game as she showed her pace again to get round the outside of Tabard and cross over, before Suzie Gajda-Hilton kicked the conversion to make it 17-5.
The home side were starting to run away with it when from a scrum, Casey Burgess offloaded well to Cameron who scored. Gajda-Hilton kicked another successful conversion for 24-5.
Tabard then got a second try in similar fashion to their first, with the same player running clear, before the conversion was kicked for 24-12.
The Hedgehogs then made it 29-12 thanks to Eden crossing over in the corner to score her first ever try for Hitchin in a special moment for the winger.
However, the moment was soured somewhat as in the build-up, a Tabard player suffered a horrific dislocated elbow which saw the game ended before half-time.
