For the second game in a row Datchworth pushed London Welsh all the way before succumbing to a narrow 24-20 defeat.

A match that will be dominated by talk of another red card but it was the win that England wanted and the bonus-point success means England are through to the quarter-final. Herts Advertiser's Neil Metcalfe looks at some of the talking points from Tokyo.

Victory in their opening game against Tonga was a good start for England at the Rugby World Cup, even if the performance wasn't without its worries. It was much better though in game number two as the USA were swept aside in a 45-7 win. It was therefore a much happier Neil Metcalfe from the Herts Advertiser who watched events unfold in Kobe.

Datchworth picked up win number one in their return to London Two North West as they beat Luton 33-24 at home.

Every four years England fans have their hopes raised - and almost inevitably dashed - as a World Cup focuses the nation's attention. Sometimes it is football, this year it is rugby union and England got their campaign in Japan started with a 35-3 win over Tonga. See what Herts Advertiser's Neil Metcalfe made of the game in Sapporo.

Promoted Hitchin were left disappointed on day one of the new London North West Three season as they lost 23-5 away to Tabard.
