A Letchworth GC teenager has been made captain of his country.

Ricky Jupp, a 19-year-old from Archers Way, will lead England under-20s into battle at the European Roller Hockey Youth Championships this month. The week-long tournament is in St Omer, France.

The former Fearnhill School pupil now works at Hertfordshire Timber Supplies in the town.

He has played for the national team at youth level for the last four years. Ricky hopes extensive recent training, including a camp in Portugal earlier this summer, will inspire England to finish in the top five.

This is the last occasion Ricky will be able to represent England's youth section due to his age. But he has the ultimate goal of representing the seniors and a national under-23 side may also be formed in the near future.
