The Chestnut Pool fishery at Langford has seen some patchy form this week as almost all of the lake's residents have been spawning!

There have been some outstanding catches reported however.

Huge bags of small carp have been seen with up to 50 fish between two and 6lbs in a session.

Groundbait feeder is the winning method with pellet on the hook.

Larger fish have fallen to surface baits and boilies fished in the margins with the new X-Cite range from Smartbaits scoring heavily.

Numerous carp over 20lbs have been reported with the best weighing 21lb 15ozs falling to James Anthony after an epic 30 minute tussle on the pole. Pellet fished up in the water was its downfall.

Several other 20s have fallen to bread fished on or near the surface.

Hugh bags of skimmers, tench and roach up to 70lbs have also been reported with prawn fished in the margins being the best method. Pellet fished on the long pole or waggler is also productive.

Sunday's open match had 19 anglers with the winner being Ronan Ryan of Chestnut Pool who fished paste to land 60lb 6ozs of small carp.

He edged Brian Ritchie of the Red Lion AC into second who landed 55lb 9ozs of small carp on the pole and pellet.

Third was James Anthony with four carp and bits for 33lb 11ozs. He alternated pellet and caster on the pole.

The fishery will close from 4.30pm every Tuesday for the next 10 weeks due to the Fox/Chestnut Summer League matches.

Taster sessions will be based on the site's canal, which is well stocked with small carp, bream, tench and roach.

All equipment and licences are provided, although you can bring your own if preferred.

Please ensure that you bring sun cream, hats and fluid for the day just in case the sun shines!
