Baldock Town's footballers are through to the semi-finals of the Herts Junior Cup.

The North and Mid Herts League team marched through with a hard-fought 3-0 win over Hertford and District League side Ware Lions.

The Reds will now meet either Greenbury United or Hadley A in the last four at home on Saturday, March 10.

Ware Lions are unbeaten in their league so far and had only suffered two cup defeats after extra-time prior to this.

After chances at either end, Cameron Brawley was unlucky not to give Baldock the lead just after the half hour. A corner from Lee Rusbridge was met superbly by Brawley whose powerful header was hooked off the line.

A minute later, Baldock did grab the lead when Sam Crow played a ball that caught the visitors' defence square which enabled Harry Holland to race clear.

Baldock's top marksman took a touch to settle himself before lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper to give Reds the advantage.

The visitors were now rattled and Baldock had two more golden opportunities before the break to extend their lead.

Lee Buck was thwarted by the keeper, while Mark Nunn crashed an effort against the bar.

Ware Lions went close in the first minutes of the second period when the ball was driven under keeper Andrew McEwan but the ball was hooked clear in the nick of time.

It was the introduction of Michael Masters in place of Rusbridge that began to turn the tide as Baldock began to look dangerous in attack again.

With 15 minutes to go, Nunn and Masters both went close before the Reds got the all-important second goal with two minutes to go.

A cross was half cleared, Masters returned the ball and an unmarked Lee Buck calmly slotted home to seal the tie.

There was still time for another when the tireless Nunn played the ball through to Adam Shelley who raced clear, rounded the keeper and finished to give the scoreline a slightly flattering look.

This was not a vintage display but Baldock are now in three cup semi-finals and look good for some silverware by the end of the season.
