The Comet SSFL round-up

Premier Division leaders Nirankari Sports Sabha hit double figures for the third time in the league this season.

They had just two names on the scoresheet, Mark Barnes hitting six and Darren Urquart the other four against Royal Oak.

Dun Cow kept in the hunt and it looks like they will need to repeat what they have already done twice this season and beat Nirankari on the final day to win the title by a point.

Scott Mahoney (two), Adam Furness, Shaun Marshall and Danny Lane were on target against Broadhall, for whom Shaun McDermott also found the net.

Stevenage Fencing failed to field a side for the third successive week as Bottles claimed all three points.

In a huge Division Two game, and a rehearsal for the cup final this Sunday, Station just about maintained their tag of Double favourites.

Martin Preedy put them in front after a neat turn in the box before Breachwood Lions got back into the game with a move that went from right to left with John Harvey netting.

Elliot Bunn put the leaders back in front when he curled a free-kick around the wall and goalkeeper Wayne Gardner.

Moments later, he almost repeated the trick but struck the crossbar.

Liam McQueen put them further in front with a spectacular strike before they almost shot themselves in the foot when centre-half Carl Bennett put through his own net when under pressure from Ian Canning.

Danny Jeffries then saw a shot deflect on to the bar but time ran out for them.

Division Three saw Pin Green stay on track for a final day shoot-out with Hogshead when they eventually overcame against MBDA Res after a tight half an hour.

They took the lead after a goalmouth scramble when Paul Ryan headed home. Richard Griffiths took advantage of some hesitant defending to turn and volley home the second right on half-time.

Dan Barrett made a terrific save from a long range free-kick, only to see Ryan net from the loose ball. Dave Byatt grabbed a penalty for a consolation before Sean Soards and Colin Field finished matters.

Fox leapfrogged opponents Hen and Chickens into sixth and also grabbed the quickest reported goal of the day. Steven Young robbed them at the kick-off, beat a couple of players, fired across goal and Kev Ward finished after just 47 seconds.

Ward returned the favour to feed Young who finished coolly one-on-one.

Rob Barnes got Chickens' goal from the penalty spot in the second-half after Chris Thomas had gone over too easily - as both sides admitted!

Pin Green added another three points to their total with a comfortable win over Fox on Tuesday night.

The Invitation Cup has really created some interest this season.

Ten-man ProCladd had a big win thanks to Neil Henderson (four), George Rowe (two) and Carl Fletcher (two) against AFC Stevenage, for whom both Terry Lock and James Sheren scored penalties. Josh Watson also netted.

MC Racing have hit form in the past couple of months in their first season together.

Big centre-half Dave Coates scored to equal his tally of two at the wrong end. Tom Kelly (two), Nik Tribe, Lee Horsley and Steve Koop also scored, as did Darren Pitch, much to the surprise of his team-mates!

Marquis of Lorne were beaten despite four from Ant Alcock and one from their top striker Carl Thompson.
