Potton United are through to the United Counties League Knockout Cup final for the second time in three years.

The Royals earned their place in the final on April 18 against Boston Town with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Northampton Spencer on Tuesday night.

Strong winds and a bumpy pitch prevented Potton playing the football they are used to but their determination finally paid off when Brett Donnelly latched on to a Paul Garrett cross in the 78th minute.

Luke Donnelly was sent off for two bookings in the latter stages of the game but the 10 men held on through nine minutes of stoppage time.

Potton extended their winning league run to six games with another tough 2-0 victory at S&L Corby on Saturday.

Four players passed fitness tests before kick-off although the toll of Thursday's cup win over Arlesey Athletic showed at times.

Potton took an eighth minute lead when Garrett's shot hit the arm of a Corby defender and Lee Allinson made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 61st minute when a throw down the line found Brett Donnelly who cut in and beat the keeper at his near post.

Biggleswade United had a flattering 4-0 win over St Margaretsbury on Tuesday night to move further away from the SML Premier Division strugglers.

Keith Thomas scored a hat-trick - his goals coming in the 12th and 34th minutes and a third late on - with Robbie O'Dell getting the second goal of the night.

Depleted United introduced former Cambridge United, Hitchin Town and Bedford Town midfielder David Daniels for his debut in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Chalfont St Peter.

James Slack opened the scoring before the home side equalised on the stroke of half time.

O'Dell restored their lead just after the hour mark but Chalfont netted again nine minutes from time.

Biggleswade Town look safe from the drop after winning 3-1 at home to Leverstock Green on Saturday.
