Daniel French has played his last game for Hitchin Town, departing after Saturday's defeat at home to Banbury United.

French has become disenchanted with life at Top Field and had not been enjoying his football, sources close to the situation revealed.

Rumours abound that French (shown left), who joined the Canaries in August 2005, is joining his local club Stamford, who made an approach for the player at the weekend.

Manager Darren Salton said: "It's shame that Daniel has left us but he has not been happy for a while and we only want players who have a desire to play for us.

"I need everyone to fight for the shirt at the moment in order for us to improve our position."

Hitchin's leading scorer Chris Dillon (pictured right) also moved to Nationwide Conference South club Histon for an undisclosed fee.

The club and Dillon agreed terms after a recent approach by Histon.

Hitchin Town chairman Terry Barratt said: "Both Chris Dillon and Histon have behaved impeccably over this move and he leaves Hitchin Town with our best wishes.

"At Hitchin Town we never stand in the way of a player furthering his career and in this case, Chris has decided to take the opportunity to move up the non-league ladder.

"We have had a number of approaches for Chris and this time, he decided the time was right to move."

Dillon returned to Top Field in the summer from Bedford Town and scored 18 goals this season.
