NEIL McLellan launched his javelin into the record books at Ridlins Stadium on Saturday.

The Stevenage and North Herts AC athlete was competing in the Mens' League Division Three event when he threw his javelin a massive 69.1m which broke his own league record he only set last month.

Neil is currently ranked seventh in Great Britain.

He followed up his record throw by winning the shot with a throw of 12.83m and hammer 37.17m and then threw a season's best in the discus with 34.65m to claim second spot.

Godfrey Leak, now a 60 plus veteran, used many of the heavier implements and scored many points in the hammer where he was first with 24.97m, second in the shot with 8.13m and first in the discus with 28.6m.

The jump athletes contributed to the club's endeavours with Laurie Pirie winning the high jump with 12.02m. The club's other classy veteran John Mayor had a busy afternoon finishing second in the long jump with 5.67m, the pole vault with 2.40m and the 400m hurdles in 64.8.

Barry Mainstone took the B high jump with 1.55m, was second in the triple jump and 110m hurdles before being injured in a fall in the steeplechase damaging his ankle.

On the track, Josh Saydraouten set a personal best in the 400m hurdles finishing in 61.7 and Paul Ingram-Tedd also claimed a PB in the 200m crossing the finishing line in 24.1.

Paul also gained second place in the 100m in 11.8 and Josh gained a similar place in the 800m B race in 2:12.9.

Other members of the club squad included Adam Searle, Dan Poulton, Aaron Reynolds and Callum McKechnie.

The club was second in the match with a score of 143 points behind league leaders Watford Harriers with 165 points with Barnet and District AC on 72 points.

Stevenage and North Herts AC is currently in sixth spot in the league.

Away from Ridlins, two club members are working hard to be the club's best women's 800m runners.

Both at university, Hayley Beard clocked 2:11.1 at Birmingham and Emma Kemp posted 2:13.37 at Loughborough.
