THE newly crowned Miss Hertfordshire showed she is definitely not just a pretty face with an outstanding athletics display.

Hayley Kruse from Stotfold, who is going for the Miss England title this week, was part of the successful Herts schools' senior girls' combined events team.

The 17-year-old, who goes to the Knights Templar School in Baldock, helped the three-girl team win at the South of England schools' combined events championships at Lewes.

Herts convincingly won against rivals Kent - who beat them last year - scoring 11,476 points compared with 9,986.

Hayley was third individually with 3,849 and she missed out on second place by just 17 points.

Her results were: 100m hurdles 16 seconds (personal best), high jump 1.56m, shot 8.36m, 200m 27.6, long jump 4.56m, javelin 25.60m and 800m 2:39.6.

Hayley's team-mates were Natalie Farman and Claire Jaggard, who are both from the Simon Balle School in Hertford.

The girls will now go through to the English schools' national combined events final at Derby on September 16-17.
