Medals galore for athletics club

Sheffield the location as Stevenage and North Herts impress at indoor championships

There were medals galore as Stevenage and North Herts AC members competed around the country at various levels.

Seven under-20 members were in Sheffield for the England Athletics Indoor Combined Events Championships. Daniel Gardner completed the seven-event heptathlon with 4496 points for first place in the Southern Under-20 Championships with Connor Winters in second place with 4305 points.

Not to be outdone Anne Rees finished the five-event pentathlon with 3126 points to finish second in the Southern Championships, while Chloe Vernon-Hamilton was fourth and Millie Phelan sixth in the Southern Championships.

In the senior heptathlon competition Elior Harris finished fourth while Moe Sasegbon competed in three events of the pentathlon recording a personal best in the 60m hurdles before withdrawing.

Hannah Dewhurst in the under-17s age group raced to third place for the club’s only individual medal of the day at the Herts Cross Country Championships.

The under-13 girls placed third in their event.

In the under-20 men’s race Gregory Evans missed out on a medal with fourth place.

The under-15 girls’ race saw Caroline Willis (sixth), Rebecca Harris (ninth), and Janie Latchford (20th) finishing fourth best team, supported by Sarah Feely (27th) and Sophie Keeble (31st).

In the boys, James Wotherspoon (13th), Dominic Stevens (17th) and Jack Gladman (21st) took their team to fifth place.

The under-13 boys finished fifth with Robert Bolton finishing seventh, Ryan Shaw-Hawkins 14th and Matthew Livesey 20th.

The surprise result of the day came in the under-11s event where Ross Gladman, running for the first time for the club, finished fifth while Emma Bolton (16th) and Abigail Pickard (27th) ran well in the girls’ race.

Loughborough: invitation high jump, Kashif Jones 1.88m

Lee Valley: Southern Under-20s Indoor Championships 400m, Lewis Keeble fifth; under-15s girls’ pentathlon Rebecca Pickard 14th, Martha Huggins 15th.
