Biggleswade Swimming Club opens 2007 with a major competition.

The prestigious eighth annual Biggleswade open meet, held in partnership with Mid Beds Swim Squad, is on January 20-21.

This event has grown in popularity over the last few years and is now targeted by some of the major clubs in the country.

It is expected that some of the top swimmers from around the country will attend.

Biggleswade's top swimmers who train with Mid Beds Swim Squad will be looking to gain qualifying times for the East Region and UK nationals later in the year.

Training is run by a dedicated team of coaches, headed by Jo McConnell at Biggleswade Swimming Club and Vix Metcalf of the Mid Beds Swim Squad.

Nicholas Titley, chairman of Biggleswade Swimming Club, said: "Thanks to all those people who have been involved in the past year.

"Without the dedication of the coaches and a large number of parents who work in the background supporting the swimmers, they would not have the opportunity to achieve their full potential."

The club chairman also expressed gratitude to sponsors W Jordan's (Cereals) Ltd, Stevenage Leisure Limited (the leisure contractor at Saxon Pool and Flitwick) as well as Mid Beds District Council.
