THE identity of the new Stevenage Boro manager should be known within 48 hours.

Boro expect to name their new boss this Saturday after more than a week of interviews.

The job has attracted widespread interest with the likes of Jim Harvey, Mark Stimson, Brian Talbot, Jimmy Quinn, Dean Austin and former assistant manager Andy Ford all in the frame.

Boro chairman Phil Wallace is in America this week and chief executive Bob Makin said: "All the second interviews have taken place and an offer has been made this week.

"Everyone interviewed really well and there should definitely be an appointment by the weekend."

The new man will have to be busy recruiting over the summer as more than half of the first team squad have left Broadhall Way since the end of the season.

The future of fitness and goalkeeping coach Lionel Perez, who was assisting Graham Westley towards the end of the season, is also yet to be decided.

The arrival of the new manager should also coincide with Boro announcing their new main sponsor.

See The Comet next week for the full details.

Boro may not now be meeting up with former striker Anthony Elding in pre-season.

They were due to meet Elding's new club, League Two Boston United, at Broadhall Way on Tuesday, July 25.

But the Pilgrims have been superceded by Premiership Spurs in their annual fixture at Boro.

Other games yet to be confirmed are Leyton Orient (home) and trips to Boreham Wood, Thurrock, Ramsgate and Kettering.

P A row has erupted over Pin Green being stripped of their titles in The Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League.

The Division Three league and cup champions were found guilty of playing ineligible players.

But the club is still denying the accusations and have appealed to the Herts FA.

Pin Green club spokesman Ashley Bridge said: "The team has faced a season of investigation and scrutiny from the CSSFL committee, who have evidently disregarded all ruling and evidence provided that these allegations are in fact false.

"The committee members have decided to act upon guilty until proven innocent."

A league spokesman said: "The committee wish to distance themselves from any further correspondence with Pin Green FC regarding the 2005-6 season and have left the matter in the hands of the Herts FA.

"What's more, the club has been accepted for the 2006-7 season and the CSSFL look forward to seeing them competing at a higher level."

P Hitchin Town manager Darren Salton has made a double swoop on Bedford Town and signed striker Chris Dillon and winger Carl Williams. Salton brings Dillon back to the club after a two-year sojourn at Bedford, while Williams will be returning for a third spell with Hitchin.
