The Year Nine netballers at The John Henry Newman School are a force to be reckoned with.

The girls were undefeated in both the Stevenage and North Herts netball leagues and entered the national schools' competition. They were unbeaten again in five qualifying matches against the top school teams in the county at Parmiters School in Garston. The girls defeated Royal Masonic (9-5), Hockerill (8-1) and Broxbourne (8-5), plus Dame Alice Owen (8-7) and Sele School (12-2).

The team then beat Chauncy School 14-4 and St Mary's 7-5 to reach the final before losing 11-6 to a strong Goffs School side. They have still done enough to enter the next stage of the competition in February.

The girls are shown with team coach Caroline Sherar and the school's head of PE Jo Mackin. They are Amber Clayden, Lauren Jones, Megan McDvevitt, Amelia Costin, Courtnee O'Neill, Lyndsey Sherar, Jade Fernandez, Laura Deering and Ikera Williams.
