JAVELIN ace Neil McLellan broke a 15-year-old record on a day of mixed fortunes for Stevenage and North Herts AC.

The men finished second in their Southern League Division Three meeting at Bedford on Saturday.

But the women's team finished with a points tally of 132.5 at Eton and only managed fifth in their Southern Women's League Division One fixture.

McLellan continued his great start to the season by beating the record which had stood since the early 1990s.

He hurled the javelin 68.52m at a wet and windy Bedford to break the 15-year-old Southern Men's League Division Three record.

McLellan also won the shot putt (13.26m) and was second in the discus (32.20m).

The other members of the team who helped the club into second place in the four-team match were Callum McKechnie, Barry Mainstone, Lee Grint and Laurie Pirie. The club is in sixth place in the 16-team league.

Beth Harris was second in the B event with a clearance of 2.50m and Wendy Meadows Smith was second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60m.

Shelley McLellan threw 12.13m in the shot to win and Justine Simpson had a fruitful day winning the 300m hurdles in 49.3.
