British weightlifter back in training after Christmas

TONY Morgan hopes to qualify for the British Masters weightlifting competition.

Morgan, who competes in the 40-44 age group, is back in training following Christmas and hopes to qualify for the Lillishall event on March 19 and 20 by impressing at the Bethnal Green competition a week on Saturday (February 5).

Morgan, who works at Active4less in North Road, Stevenage, has a friendly rivalry with Halifax weightlifter Eddie Halstead and hopes to meet him at the Masters.

“Last time out at the 2005 British Masters Eddie Halstead did 254kg total and I did 255kg. It was great for the audience, but not for my nerves,” Morgan said.
