More than 40 students from Stevenage schools turned out to have a go at table tennis.
For some it was their first chance to pick up a bat and for others it was a chance to show off their skills.
Support was on hand from coaches from the Wymondley and Hitchin clubs in order to promote table tennis to young people. The event was organised by Gina Kelly, sport co-ordinator for Heathcote and Marriotts, and David Kells from the Wymondley Table Tennis Club.
The taster session took place at the Marriotts Sports College and the children thoroughly enjoyed playing table tennis as many had been following it in the Commonwealth Games.
Gina said: "From this taster session, we are sure we can get a team together to represent Team Stevenage at the Herts Youth Games which is excellent."
A further six weeks of table tennis will run after school during term time on Wednesdays (3.30-4.30pm) at Marriotts led by Bill Price. Any students interested in joining from Stevenage schools should call Gina on 01438 314537.
